Most of the day-to-day work of running the Sanctuary is done by Felicity, with the help of a small team of French and British volunteers. Felicity works tirelessly to care for the Sanctuary’s residents despite ongoing medical conditions. We have a wonderful French volunteer, Muriel, who comes pretty much every day, morning and evening, to help with feeding and to give medications and treatments to our residents when prescribed by the vet.

Some of our other volunteers come a few times a week, others come once a month or whenever they can, but all help is sincerely appreciated. We also have volunteers working behind the scenes to help with the administration side of things, helping with emails and Facebook appeals, etc., and generally keeping things up to date.

But Covid put a stop to it, we had an annual fête which was a great way to raise funds and to raise awareness amongst the local community of what we do. We are always looking for new volunteers to help us, so please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you’d like to come and help. Whether you’d like to be hands on at the Sanctuary or to help behind the scenes, we’d love to hear from you.

We have links with The Flicka Foundation donkey rescue in Cornwall and in the past a team of their volunteers has stayed for a week, spending literally all day, every day, at the Sanctuary to help out. We always miss them when they have to leave!
The Flicka Foundation has also helped us rescue donkeys in the past, and several of our donkeys are now with them at their sanctuary in Cornwall.

In addition, we have close links with several rescue organisations in France. Notably, Pour l’Amour des ânes 29/ For the love of Donkeys 29, and Amour des Animaux Bretagne. Both these associations have helped us rescue and rehome equines, and we continue to work together when possible.
